Nicholas (Nick) Balzer joined VFG in October of 2017 as a member of the credit underwriting and risk management team.
Prior to joining VFG, he spent 5 years in the Pittsburgh banking market with Dollar Bank. During this time, Nick built and honed his analytical, management and financial risk evaluation skills.
In 2011, Nick obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Wheeling Jesuit University (WJU). In addition to growing academically, he excelled on the pitch as an athlete while a proud member of the WJU Cardinals Men’s Soccer Team.
To this day, his love for athletics is strong. Soccer has been both a gift to Nick as well as an instrument through which he gives back to the community. He currently serves as soccer coach at Seton-La Salle, his high school alma mater, where he also helped propel the team to victory during the PIAA Boys State Championship as a player in 2006.
Nick’s greatest passion is helping others. So, coaching fits perfectly within his personality. He enjoys seeing others grow and learn, both on and off the field. He has a strong desire to see others succeed and is grateful when he has an opportunity to play a positive and impactful role in the process.
Nick has a very strong and positive outlook on life. His personal belief is that there is an answer to everything. He is a very family oriented kind of person who understands that decisions he makes have the potential to affect a significant number of people down the line. Because of this understanding, he strives to view situations, challenges and opportunities from more than just one paradigm before deciding which course of action to take. He takes care to consider all the relevant facts before making business and life decisions.
Above all else, Nick enjoys spending time with his wife Julie and the family they have together in Pittsburgh. As a native Pittsburgher and sports fan, his love for the 5-time Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins runs deep.
